Thanks Szrazzt I like the lights as well, they were pricey but still some of the best out there and they will pay for themselves in the end.

I am still looking at both ways but one of the main things is I like the idea of cover just in case I end up with a crazy fish that likes to jump. I am also running this in my basement and I think the cover will help keep the moisture down and temp up.

LOL.. dont be too jealous, its not very wide at all. It was a closet and the wife and I decided to put the refugium and stuff in there instead so it would be much easier to clean instead of under the tank. I think it will also cut down on the extra noise of water and equip as well. Once I put the 30 gallon fuge in along the wall I will have just about enough room for me to walk past it sideways, but at least I can stand up..lol

Well an update is overdue but I decided I wasnt happy with the silicone in the DT so I cleaned the old stuff out and re-sealed the DT.

I finally got water, sand and rocks in the tank to start the cycle:

I am currently re-sealing my sump as well so I do not have my new Vertex skimmer running yet but here is a picture of that:

I am also putting the last coat of sealant on my canopy to make sure that is waterproofed and when that is complete I can get the moonlights installed and the rest of the lighting system. Once I get the lights on the tank I will start taking more pics, hopefully have the lights and sump going this weekend.

All in all things are going well, just trying to make sure I cover all the basics now instead of running into problems later.

Nice looking tank, I am just north of you in Palmerton PA. Have you been to Something Fishy? Nice LFS in Northampton if you aren't familiar you should check it out.

    That's a very nice setup :)

I just set mine up 1 month ago, so it's producing some brown algae, past the green algae, but the purple live rock is bleaching. Been adding Reef Code A + B plus pH buffer. But maybe I should just leave it alone and let it get established. My budget is very low too, and since I'm a inexperienced in fish tanks, my brother in law help me set it up. The bad thing is that it's got an under gravel filter system with two maxi-jet 600 and just recently found out I really like reef tanks and this setup won't work for me. Got laid off from work, so I can't buy a sump/fuge right now, and was looking at DIY options. Overflow, siphon and skimmer are still out of range for me. Can't wait to get some money to continue.

I'm glad you're covering all the angles there and your scaping is nice with plenty of holes for the fish and shelves for corals.

Little jealous here as well ;)

    Keep posting pics!
