Its a dirty job but you gotta do it.

    Hi,
I usally only clean the top portion of the tube so I can see the water/bubble level and leave the bottom alittle dirty it starts skimming quicker and works better alittle dirty,
    Ps
the needle wheel and the bubble generator will start to precip calcium fairly quickly and your skimmer will not generate bubbles as well as when it was new so I haul mine out of the sump take it to the sink and break down the pump, needle wheel and the venturi thing and make sure it isn't all cemented shut with calcium . It usally blows the top off after a good cleaning so be sure to back the water level down before you plug it in, or you may get a little to much flow.
Ask me how I know , damn I flooded the GFI again and now have to wipe and dry everything to get it to work
Ditto for return pumps and power heads they can have a drastic drop in flow rates pretty quick...specially in those coral tanks super saturation of that calcium..
My marine tank filters have to be cleaned almost weekly due to that precip.
    Are we having fun..

as is with many thing that are fairly cheep be careful or you may break sumpthing in the sink, ps lost an O ring yet.
mine on the little 65 gal model falls off in the skiimer on the floor and it don't seal real good with out it.
