I have added a Coralife Protein Skimmer to my 72gal bowed, the tank is new and been up for about three weeks. I have 100+ lbs of LR and 50lbs of LS. I have also added a cleanup crew, Coral banded Shrimp, and a Cleaner Shrimp. The skimmer seems to be running correctly. The lower canister is filled with fine bubbles to the point of showing as a milky liquid however I am not seeing any skimmate at this point. The configuration is in sump (20gallon). Any ideas or suggestions would be great...Thanks...

I would of left your shrimp out of the tank until it has finished cycling, hopefully they will be ok. My skimmer is basically the same as the coralife and you should adjust it so the water is level with the base of the collection cup. You probably wont get much skimmate at the moment so dont worry about it too much. Many people dont even run a skimmer when cycling a new tank.

    Good luck.

I agree, it sounds like you have it set up correctly. You will really like the coralife skimmer. I have the same one, and it is awesome.

That is what I am hoping. How long did it take for you skimmer to start producing skimmate?

i have one also, we should make a fan club:p , and it took at least 2 days to get to the point where the bubbles were like a cloud in the skimmer and skimmate was flowing like bubbly foam from a 3 year olds bath tub. Just becareful with the bubble trap....if you dont leave that 1 inch it spews out like a geyser and floods everywhere, like it just did with mine and as i type im cleaning it up. Any suggestions to control the micro bubbles without having it overflow???

mine started in about 2 days....but to be fair, I put it on an established tank. I was replacing a broken seaclone skimmer with it.

I'd give it a good week on a newer tank before you see anything...and even then it may not be much. Down the line though, as there is more to remove from your tank, it will rock!

I decided not to use the bubble diffuser. After messing around with it for a few days it was suggested to me by someone else using this skimmer to use a micro bag instead. It works great.....
