Sounds like Robman might have hit the nail on the head. If as you say it's overflowing on the lowest setting, then the skimmer is is sitting too deeply in water. Use a perch of some kind to raise it and you problem will be solved.

I have the 65 model in my sump..everything was goning good then all of the sudden it started overflowing regularly..I set the skimmer on an upside down cereal bowl on the bottom of my sump to get the pump a little closer to the top of the water and had to turn the valve right above the pump down a little bit..now i get great dry skimmate

really it sounds like to me you may have treated the water with a chemical of some kind. and they skimmer is attempting to remove that chemical. i would set the up a external skimmate bucket and let it skim a couple gallons, and see if it doesnt slow down. if it doesnt the skimmer and pump may need to be cleaned.

also like i said before i would not turn off the skimmer when feeding dosing phyto even in a hob application.

I have a line coming from the venturi to the silencer which is a small can under the cup the line goes to it and the additional outlet there was open so I added a line there with a gang valve giving me more overall control of the skimmer, I had done thise before but went a while without a skimmer as I had no fish so it is working like a skimmer should work now..try it will give additional control over the skimmer and makes it much easier to set....thnx

Good to hear. These are good skimmers just can be a pain. I want to build a sump to help keep spills contained with the skimmer being in a sump.
