Take the skimmer and physically pick it up 2 inches so that its 2" above where it normally hangs. You will see an instant change in it because its going to raise the pump with it. What that should do is lower the water level in the skimmer. If it does, then you simply need to figure out how to hold the skimmer higher than were it is hanging now.

If that doesnt solve it, sit it back on the tank. Remove the air silencer and gently blow on the air line. Don't suck on it though (I have made that mistake, it aint nice). If blowing on it causes it to skim better, it will need cleaning. CSS skimmers are bad about getting the air inlet clogged. Simply pull the venturi piece off the inlet of the pump. It just pulls off. Its the piece with the air line attached to it. Then soak it in vinegar and water and take a toothpick and clean out the air inlet hole. Re-assemble it all and re-test it.

If the skimmer has run for a while and just started the wet skimming, its probably a stopped up air inlet. If it is new, it may not be broken in yet.

    Hope this helps.

Try cutting the tube that connects the pump to the skimmer so it is higher up in the water level. Also, are you using the strainer that comes with it. If not, this could be your problem too. A strainer will hold back a little of the water and allow for more air. Hope this helps

O.K been watching this one all day , I would first ask how old is the tank ? what is the bio load like on the tank ? and if its to little then you are over driving the skimmer with water to try and force some foam.. cut the pumps air inlet totally off and then make sure the water level in chamber is correct then crack the air just enough to make some foam and just let it be . May take awhile to build up foam pressure enough to make it to the collection cup , the Bio load will dictate that.. System could be to new or clean or under stocked to make rich foam fast.. This is what after reading this thread I think its the system is to new or clean or in need of a skimmer right now . I never add a skimmer until about 3 to 4 months at least after stocking and feeding fish begins ,There is nothing for it to skim and the skimmer retards coralline growth.i

I run a coralife and I remember something about the pump having to be no more than 3" below the surface. So I agree with the whole trimming the tube to raise the pump if need be.

And as always any advice from tangster is well worth following lol

    Good luck with the skimming,
    Jake

The Bio-Load is really light as I only have one fish until payday, I think the skimmer is more than I need at this point. I will do as you stated in the post, thank's alot....The tank has been up for about 5 month's the skimmer is good and it is a used skimmer, I just need to get more of a bio-load for it to skim properly. I am getting more fish over the course of the next couple month's but right now my objective is to get some Tek light's and maybe 2 more fish in may the rest in june. But will not have over 5 small fish as it is only a 55 gallon tank. I just do not have the bio-load the skimmer is designed for. Thank's again and welcome back!!!!

There is a half of an inch between the two connector's for the pump so I can not raise it any more except to set it on block's which is what I will do tomorrow..thnx
