I bought a tank from family and it has a coralife 36 in 2x150 hqi light. I have a wave point 4x54 ho t5. The tank is a 120 gallon. Which one is better and if the t 5 is better I will let the coralife go real cheap

i mean the the first question i would have is it the 4ft or 6ft 120 gal tank? cause that would matter in the choice

Depends to a large degree what you are hoping to keep in the tank

4 x 54 watts T5 lighting , would be ideal in FO, or FOWLR and also for a tank with mostly soft corals, even LPS corals, and SPS if placed appropriately

2 x 250 watt MH lamps , would be a better choice IME if you wanted a tank of mostly SPS corals, which accounting for specific needs of individual species requirements such as flow etc , many SPS corals would do really well down at the sand bed level under 250 watt halides in that sized/ deep tank

T5 s will be cheaper to run, saving electricity costs
T5s generate less heat, which could cause issues during the summer months

i agree with steve with a 4ft tank the t-5 offer a better range for you. also you can get a retro fit kit and add more so you would be able to grow just about anything. the 150watt MH i don't think offers enough power for that tank.

the duel 150 MH would do good over a 40 Breeder setup as a frag tank
