ok so this should be in lighting but i need a quick response...I have a 192 watt 36 inch aqualight with the two fans at one end, on 96watt actinic and one 96watt 10000k daylight...should this thing get really really hot, its hot enough that i can barely keep my hand on it...the half closest to the fans is ok, but all the way at the other end I cant keep my hand on it...? is this normal, I gotta leave it on while Im at work tomorrow and im concerned...

not really, just that fact that there wiring an ballasts inside the thing and I didnt know if it was intended to get that hot or not, youd think for a lighting fixture that new costs 230 bucks theyd have better cooling...heck the fans in my nano are better then this thing...I did give the fans a good cleaning and they run good an quiet...

I have the Coralife deluxe lunar 48" 2x65watt actinic and 2x10,000 k 65 watt with fans on each end. The light gets no where near that hot where you cant touch it. I would have your light checked out.

OK got this figured out, I called Dr. foster and Smith's tech dept. and they said do to it being 192 watts in the smaller housing that it will run fairly hot, they actually suggested an oven mit to touch it when in use...I however wasnt completely satisfied so I used the fans from my nano-cube(which arnt needed as its only a hospital and QT tank now)and I extended wires to have one fan sucking air into the fixture and at the other end is one pulling the air out of the fixture...I'll post the mods with more detail in the lighting suggestion, if you have this light I'd suggest doing it...
