    has anyone used these? could i put this in a canopy?

    Yes they can be mounted in a canopy, but I'm curious why you would DIY a PC unit. For any application, T5 bulbs are cheaper, last longer, produce more PAR for corals, and you get a larger selection to better tailor your lighting to suit your needs. For a FO tank, T8s are still cheaper and last longer.

    I would avoid anything coralife....nearly everything I have bought of that brand has been of poor quality, and I am slowly but surely replacing all of it. That goes for lights, protein skimmers, and even digital thermometers.

    i need a cheap improvement for my frag tank. i can get it discounted at $40. i already have a 2 bulb pc on it now.

    If you need to upgrade your existing light fixture, you'll save in the long run with T5. PC is old technology, and there are reasons why it's being phased out- poor performance and poor quality. It's not cost-effective to invest in it for any purpose at any price.
