My coral life makes the same sound too, its pretty loud at first, but you get use to it after a while. It also works pretty good, but I wish I bought a euro reef skimmer ;D.

euthyphro I don't think these skimmers really micro bubble very bad even with out the diffuser.

Using or not using it is mostly ascetics some people hate microbubbles.

The diffuser is a good place to put chemical media. Especially if someone isn't running a sump.

I just hooked a super skimmer up today not whistling I can hear air suction through the venturi hose but no whistle here. Aslo is this skimmer fine operating without a cover foam on the intake?

geez, all of you people having problems with the coralife superskimmer, and I'm STILL worse off than y'all! mine would be perfect, except my impeller's screwed up somehow... i think the rod in the middle is bent, and its making the impeller jump in the housing... i contacted ESU for a replacement, because i can't find one any where else, and i don't want to spend 40+ bucks for a new complete pump... anyway, Dan O'Brien (one of the top dawgs at ESU) said he'd send me a replacement impeller as soon as they got some in the warehouse... unfortunately, he has no idea when that will be...

well, come monday, i'll be ordering a remora anyway, so now it doesn't matter... if y'all hear mention that someone wants a superskimmer for cheap, either let me know or tell them to contact me i mean, as far as working, mine worked great... i just didn't like the loud noise...plus, i would like a more compact unit (ie remora)

I have one as well and I've never had a problem, not very loud, although you can barely hear anything over the sound of all the pumps.

I do need to clean the air intake every month, salt buildup.

If my water level changes it does throw it off a bit, but I usually keep everything level, for the most part.

I've had mine for about 8 months.

I actually fully enjoy this skimmer. So far its been reliable, gotten alot of dark gunk in my collection cup. A little loud but my whole setup is loud anyways. I've had it for like 2 months and no problems yet...knock on wood
