new tank build - filled my tank with water, added in one 50gal mix bag of salt (bucket came with 3 which is supposedly good for 150gal).

its been 24 hours and its still milky/cloudy. i have nothing in the DT besides a 1200GPH pump just circulating. how long should it take for this to dissolve? is this why it was only $30 a bucket in comparison to the seachem/red sea which was $65-70 a bucket? get what i paid for?

im kinda salty atm i was hoping to add in my live rock... pardon the pun lol

I don't have the ability to make my own salt water, but what I know from others that do, is that they mix the water and the salt in a separate container, using a power head and heater. Then they let it sit for at least 24 hours checking to see if salinity and temp are correct. After the parameters are correct, then they add the water to the tank. Sounds like you did the same thing but just right in the tank....so maybe it might take a couple more days.....

Sorry if that isnt too much help, but I don't have a lot of personal experience with it.

yeah after 11 hours thus far its getting MUCH better. disolving better at 73 degrees. temps still on the rise. set the hydor-theo to 85 degrees. thanks all for the responses. i will be using a seperate 40gal mix container for future water changes. i figured id just use the DT considering theres no bio-load yet.

Coralife is great salt IMO. It's all I use for my reef tank. Much higher calcium and magnesium than the more expensive salts.

Salt in general mixes better above 78F. Always mix in warm water.

its totally cleared up...84 degree water temp, 1.021 SG.. adding some more salt to get it up to 1.023-1.025.

also taking back this hydor theo 300 and swapping it for two 150's (15.5" = 300w 12" = 150W) ill be able to fit the 150's in the sump a hella lot easier :)

i started using Instant ocean instead of coralife, cause it seems to dissolve much faster.

84 degrees is rather warm, you might want to let the water cool down to the temp of the tank before adding any more salt. The temp of the water will effect the salinity.
