A sump is definitely worth it. I did a 20g sump with a refugium on my 30g DT and love it. gets alot of the equipment out of the tank. the other thing to remember is more water means more stable parameters. I definitely like this skimmer better in the sump. no mods and it works great for me.

So other than it's stupid diffuser flaw, how is it for the main purpose of it's job, keeping the water healthy? Been doing some research and I am convinced that I will be building a 20gal sump for the tank, already been checking on overflow boxes.

I have only had my 40 breeder up and running since Dec 31st. So far the skimmer has been doing its job and I havent had any problems (knock on wood). I only have 30 lbs of live rock, 4 fish and about 25 inverts. So far the only thing I've maintained is a little hair algae popping up now and again. My CUC takes pretty good care of the tank. I think if I had to do it again I would of went with a CPR Aeroforce 2 or a Reef Octopus.

Mine has done very well in the skimming department. I get a good dark skimmate off of it. I've been very happy with it and it keeps up with my system very good.

As for overflow boxes, checkout the Eshopps PF-300. It doesn't take up a whole lot of tank space. I considered the CPR type, but didn't like the weir design and the fact that you have to use a pump to keep it primed. The eshopps is just a simple U-tube design, but it works well. It has yet to lose siphon, even with a power outage.

Will I officially do not like this skimmer, I messed with it and got it to work right until today, I added my first shipment of live rock and the skimmer actually started producing skimmate, which it didn't before, cus the tank was empty, now I got microbubbles all over the place and I messed with it for 2 hours. So its either mod it or replace it. ......<> or a sump

I found some nice plans on youtube for some 20gal sumps and their much easier to build than I thought they would be, this is surely something I will have to do, my wife is going to kill me, hahaha!

In an update, the diffuser is working much better, I removed the lower sponge pad in the diffuser and replaced it with a phosphate remover pad, same effect with added benefit, i'm such a genius, hahaha!!

Yes! A sump is my next project and I have plenty of room under my stand for a 20gal, looking forward to getting most of that equipment out of my main tank. Thanks lillys.
