    purple up isn't magic. it's just an expensive way to imprecisely raise your Mg and Ca levels... because Purple Up does not know your current param readings, the amount you dose for Purple Up is arbitrary.

    I can walk from a to b. If I put on a jacket, I can still walk from a to b. Does that mean the jacket worked? Maybe, but I don't give the jacket the credit. That's how i view "purple up worked for me". It doesn't hurt but i don't believe it helps either. I think the success is incorrectly being given to this product. ko-inky-dink.

    Not magic, just a different product. From the bottle;
    NOT A FERTILIZER: Purple Up™ encourages the growth of desirable pink and purple coralline algae not nuisance algae.

    UNIQUE DUAL METHOD APPROACH TO CORALLINE ALGAE ACCELERATION:
    IONIC CALCIUM: Immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. 10 MICRON ARGONITE: Targets the live rock surface, where it dissolves in situ, delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where it's needed.
    IODINE REPLENISHMENT: Purple Up™ also replenishes iodine, an essential element for coralline algae tissues that becomes quickly depleted in closed systems.

    EASY TO USE: One bottle of Purple Up™ replaces the typical multi product recipe for successful coralline algae growth favored by advanced aquarists.

    CONTAINS SUPER SEA CALCIUM™: Natural calcium derived from pristine, tropical oceans.

    Now, I rotated it with Kent 2 part system. You should check your iodine as it has some in it. It is a good product as you get "MICRON ARGONITE". If you want to accelerate the purple and pink Coraline....it works. Now one disclaimer; your lights will affect the coraline.

    That cracks me up. What is it saying? AFAIK, coralline is favored by new folks... "advanced" (whatever that is suppose to mean) users on 3reef seem to all find it a nuisance (including me). Or is it saying it replaces the multi-product way of dosing Mg, Alk, et al separately... bc dosing separately is what you have to do if you want all to be stable. They deplete at different rates.

    To further what I was saying earlier... take this pic.

    It took less than a year for this junk to completely cover my back glass. About 8 months after I quit cleaning the back glass, it was like this.

    I have NEVER used Purple Up. But if I had, this still would have happened... I could see easily tricking myself into thinking it's responsible for this... but it has nothing to do with it....

    proper levels are key. purple up is no better at doing this than a multitude of other products (like Bulk Reef Supply's 2 part dosing kit or a reactor). It's a waste of money.

    Alright I think i'll either just wait for the coraline to spread or does the calcium myself, it sounds like purple up is a waste of money. Thanks everyone!

    I have noticed a lot of people are under the misconception that it adds coralline algae to a tank when all it does is add calcium and crushed aragonite for its' growth. I am still on the fence on Purple Up as I have noticed my phosphates go up a little when using it. I got raped by the LSF on it's price @ $28 so I felt I had to use it for a while. I now have a kalk drip setup instead.
