My tank was cycled using all dry Marco Rocks and 2 months into it I am now starting to get a very light green coloration almost lime green in color forming on the rocks. Could this be the start of Coraline? Will it change to the purplish color over time? I sure hope so because I think it's rather fugly!!!

Here's a few shots of the tank for you to see. so what do you think?????

No it won't turn into coraline. If it's hard green algae type it's actually green diatoms. Most people think it's a type of green algae. What type of clean up crew do you have in there? It's usually a part of a new tank though .. just get a bunch of cerith snails maybe some other nassarius, turbo snails. I like hermits as part of the cleanup crew. I had a fuzzy cheaton that mowed that stuff down. Keep the phosphates in check.

To get the pink or purple coralline, you will need to either get some scrapings from someone else's tank or buy a chunk of live rock that has it on it. Either way you get it, you'll want to turn off filters and powerheads for about an hour and a half and pour the scrapings into the tank, if you get it that way. If you get a rock with it on it, scrape it off the rock into the water. Make sure the majority of it lands on your rock. you'll need to have your Ca and Mg steady. 420-Ca and 1400-1800-Mg. You'll get it to grow. I did the scrapings from someone method.

Thats looking good tormentor I remember when you added the rock. I got the reffcleaners rock a few weeks after you set your rock in the water. I also have a bunch of the green but the cuc takes it out pretty quickly, At time I get a weird yellow color on the rocks but it doesnt stay long. The only way for me to get pink rock here was to buy something attached to the rock. I have a couple small peices with coralline on it I wonder if it will spread from there or do I have scrape it off and let it blow around? If I had a bunch I would send you a mess of it. Is that coraline or Cyano in the picture with the clown? (over to the right)

It is possible, and yes, there is green coraline. But like gras said, unless you have intoduced some first, you wont be seeing any pop up

He has yet to introduce coraline in the tank from what I gather, and it doesnt just start growing like other algae and bacteria, so any way if it is coraline then good luck and if it isnt good luck also,
I found this from my studies of coraline growth and this is said to be the best water for coraline,

    SG apx 1.024
    Calcium - 350 to 480 ppm
    Carbonate Alkalinity - Between 2.5 and 4.0 meq/L (7-12 dKH)
    Strontium
    Low Phosphates (Close to Zero)
Low Nitrates (5 ppm or lower)

I have lots of pink and purple coralline. I also have green. The green seems to be the fastest growing. I also have some red / burgundy. It's not cyano because I've had cyano outbreaks. If it's not stringy and encrusts, and is hard to scrape, it's coralline. The green is a cool neon color under the MH.

my cleanup crew just moves right over it and it doesn't come off, I've pulled a piece out and it is hard. As for the rock with the purple coloration on it it is a piece of live rock I got from an LFS that has the purple Coraline growth on it. I have about 10 lbs of it in the tank.
