I just go 50 lbs of base rock and 10 lbs of beautiful live rock and want to seed the base. Should I be skimming?
    Thanks

    Sure.
Just keep your magnesium up and it should spread in my experience.

Yup, just like Matt said, keep your Mg, Ca and KH in line and it will grow. Make sure your NO3 and PO4 levels as low as you can get them, as those things prevent coralline growth. Don't go nuts over too much coralline growth though, Coralline has its own set of problems when too much grows in a tank.

It will grow if you keep Mg, Ca and KH at where they are supposed to be. To have it spread to the new baserock, you can take something sharp and scrap it off of the rock that currently has it. The spores this creates will float around for a while and help the coraline spread. You would have to turn off your skimmer for about 30 mins or so, so that what you just scrapped off doesn't get pulled out.

In my experience thats the only time you wanna turn off the skimmer to help coraline spread and grow. But in time with patience it'll do its thing. You'll prolly get mad at scraping it off the glass all the time soon enough :p
