Does coraline need light to survive? Trying to decide to run the lights or not during the cycle.

I have heard others on this site mention if you run lights during your cycle is will promote nusence (sorry i cant spell tonight)algae growth. I will soon be cycling a tank and will do so with lights off. After cycle I will run the lights on and keep calcium levels stable to promote coraline. I'm gonna subscribe to this thread, hopefully others will comment about the light question..

Powerman started a thread where some indicated that at low light levels, more coraline growth. Might be worth a read.

A lot of it will probably die from the cycle, I wouldn't worry about it. It will come back as long as your parameters are in check. It will grow, just give it time and the proper environment.

I would leave the lights on, algae will grow but it helps balance the water ph and helps eliminate nitrite, nitrate, phosphate etc. Maybe buy some macro algae to help it out and many insects that eat film algae will flourish helping you in tons of ways

and coraline algae does need light calcium iodine and proper ph and kh to grow.
