Coraline Turning White

    my coraline algae in some spots looks like a white layer is falling off the surface of it. and some spots are turning white weather there is no coraline or not. just turning bleech white. whats going on

    Is the live rock fairly new to your aquarium?

    did you just change lighting or add new bulbs?

    The rock as been in there for about 2 months now. I bought someone elses livestock, all thier rock, fish etc. I put a new t5 ballast on about 2 weeks ago. using a powerglo and marineglo

    Check calcium and Mag levels.

    Did you add anything that munches on coralline ?

    It could be responding to the change in light. It should come back once it adapts.

    It's dying that is why its white. Mine will do this if it hits. Air or if water is off. It can be fixed

    Agreed. I drained my overflow for maintenance (snail shells) and the pink/red coralline that had covered the glass turned white afterwards. it took months but it returned to its colorful self.

    I wish I had never seen the stuff myself I really wish it was not in the tank to much trouble to scrub off John I had some of my plating pink/red speckled corallins to survive the 180 blow out its taking hold in this 90 now if you ever want a chunk holler I'll send you some it grows off the rocks like a montipora does .

    Hey Roger, I can see where you are coming from. I suppose we need to take the good with the bad. remember years back when you taught me how to dial in my calcium reactor...those are the days that my coralline took off like mad. Now I am always cleaning things and finding that a razor blade and vinigar are my best defense - or in this case offense !
