I've been noticing my coralline algae has been dying off lately, so I decided to start dosing kalk in my ato. It's only been two or three weeks but the dying hasn't stopped, actually it seems to be speeding up.
    calc-450
    alk-9dkh
    mag-1300
    ph- 7.8-8.2
    salinity1.027(going to fix this tonight)

My LFS suggested purple up, he said it would bring it back pretty quickly. Will it? And should I stop dosing kalk when using it or not bother with it all together?

I only use 3 tsp per 5 gallons of kalk.

Purple up raises calcium and adds other junk. I would not use it as your calcium is good. You mg is a little low. I was told corraline loves mg

What type of lighting do you have, and if not LED, how old are the bulbs? If they're losing their PAR/spectrum, that would cause coralline regression.

yep if your lights are old this would hurt the algae growth, if they are good then i would said lack of iodine may be a issue iodine will help if used properly purple up uses iodine to get the algae to grow

I have t5 lighting, the bulbs are about 6 months old so I suppose it is time to replace them. Would it have this significant of an effect though?

How much does a video speak? Haha
GoPro HD Hero 2 Test - YouTube The first tank is the one I was asking about, the center base rock and the one just to the left has purple all over it. (The center one had started to fade before taking this video two months ago).

    This was taken today.

Please excuse the ugly tanks in the video haha

The only dosing I would do would be getting the mag up where it belongs and your salinity down where it belongs (slowly, not all at once as that can cause other problems).
