Coralline Algae?

Does anyone know how long it takes for coralline algae to start to show up once introduced? I am not seeing any spots at all at this point. My dkh doesn't go below 8 and my Ca stays above 400ppm, not sure on the Mg because i don't have a test for it yet. My lights haven't been the best recently until i got new bulbs but from what i understand, the light doesn't have to be spectacular to grow coralline.

 

Be carefull what you wish for.
If you keep your numbers at optimum levels it will show up. Its very similar to sps and will use Alk.,Cal.,and Mag..

 

Well, my theory is that if coralline is able to grow then my levels and everything are right for starting to introduce some coral. I may be totally wrong on this but I am just not seeing any coralline growth and am wondering if it is a seeding problem or some other problem.

 

How long has the tank been running?

It has been running since November, so almost 5 months. But a lot of that time I had poor lighting. I have had my old tank bulbs on it for about 6 weeks. I do need to check my mag level but I don't have a test kit for it yet. Anyone have any suggestions on what brand to buy or not buy?

I used to have a lot in my 55. When I did, I didnt like it. Slowly it disappeared. Currently in my 220 (and you saw with your own eyes) I dont have any. Coralline isnt an indication that you are ready for some coral.

With that said, when are coming over to get some coral?...

 

Yeah, one tank of mine was so infested i had to get a tuxedo urchin to keep it in check...
