    I am quite perplexed. My tank has been doing wonderful. PH 8.3 Alkalinity 149ppm. Po4- .09 calcium 560 to 580 mag - 1350 sal - 1.026
reef octopus skimmer. T5 lighting - 60 inch 3 atinic, 2 reef sun, 1 purple plus. Salt mixture- red sea pro plus. 180gal tank with 55 gal sump approx 180gal total water. 75pounds fiji live sand, 200 pounds live rock in tank n sump. Tank has been set up since its move for 1.5 years

Softies are doing extreemly well to date. my green carpet seems to grow daily its about a year in my tank 13inches across. Last week i noticed green star polyps receeding. n tissue dying on my acro corals. tested water and figured out ph was at 8.7 so did a water change and got ph back to 8.3. Was adding soda ash and must have added to much.

Green soft coral is expelling zozanthelie but seems ok. but have noticed my pink n purple algae turing white and the rocks have white speckles.

What can I do too reverse this crash???

    Welcome to 3reef.

Have you changed your bulbs recently?

Why are you running the Ca so high?

I would look at your alkalinity values and see if you are getting larger swings than you actually think you are. Double check parameters against another test kit, make sure your test kit has not expired.

I have had coralline die back or turn white for a couple reasons, new light bulbs, light bulbs too old, usually it bounced back in no time. Swings in Alk, depleted trace elements such as strontium.

Lastly I have had urchins eat coralline, Asterina starfish eat coralline but not to the degree were it all appeared to be dying back.

I would get your Ca in line, replenish some trace elements, monitor for swings in alk rather than pH.

I have to agree with corailline on this. I have a 220 and the only time any of mine has had a problem was addressed with what she said. What test kits are you using and what about alk?

Mine started to die off and my Mag was around yours (1300) I bumped it back up to 1440 and it's no longer white, looking great again. :)
