Someone today told me that different types of lighting (MH, T5, LED, etc.) had a tenancy to produce different colors of coralline. He mentioned MH producing mostly red and T5 purple. Is this true?

Also, is it normal to be seeing this much coralline a @ 8 weeks? I also added 2 T5 Actinics for suppliment, so the color is a little different. Not sure which I like better.

um i guess it could..i put in an 18k daylight bulb in place of my fiji purple and have pink, orange, purple, and maroon...i had the bluer spectrum bulbs before and had no coralline, my tanks been up for 8ish months..as soon as i put the 18k in i had coralline growing left and right..but i think the color just depends on whats on the rock..my buddy has beautiful baby blue coralline in his tank and he just has 3 10k daylights and 3 actinics..he also has pink and green..but maybe the lights could matter..all i know from experience is it needs that white spectrum to grow..

for the longest time i read that it grows best under the blue spectrum and thats BS..but the hobby is different for different people

also coralline doesnt take long at all to grow if you have the right conditions..i literally saw pink coralline growing by the end of the first day of adding the daylight bulb..

before i had 20k halide, blue+ and fiji purple, with no coralline growth or really coral growth, but had some amazing colors..

now i have 20k halide blue+ and 18k daylight, and have coralline

So do you think it was just a coincidence that the coralline growth really kicked when I added the T5 actinics, shifting it to a bluer spectrum?

well yeah..they need both to grow just like corals..or at least to bring out the colors in corals..

so yeah i would say adding the actinic it sparked it just like me adding a daylight bulb..

but i think coralline color has to do with what is on the rock.

IMO there are too many factors to determine the actual color of corailline.
