It has been over 4 months and my nano has seen a slight amount of coralline, but it has since died off. I dont really understand... All of my corals are very healthy and are growing very well, but I just cant keep coralline in my tank for an extended amount of time. I dose calcium and strontium frequently so my levels should be good. Any ideas? Im starting to get tired of pale rocks... :-/

i think ur answers lies in this statement. what are ur levels of ca, alk, and mag. i have never dosed for strontium. dont dose if you arent testing for it.

I will get it tested and post back with the specifics, but it should be good. I have a very small tank volume and I do water changes pretty frequently. No nitrates and low phosphates.

What kind of lights do you have over the tank? Some people hardly get coralline some people can't stop it from growing.

I have 2 18w bulbs. 50/50 10k and actinic, so the lighting is more than enough. Its only over 3 gallons of water. If you were to go by the wattage per gallon ratio it has 12 watts per gallon...

i beleive that elevated magnesium levels help encourage coraline algae growth and I also use Tropic Marin Bio Magnesium because you don't have to mix it prior to adding it to the aquarium. Just add the leveled-off scoop fulls right into your sump. In addition to magnesium, it is also important to make sure that the calcium and alkalinity are all in check within the system

As stated before, don't dose if you aren't testing for it. In a nano regular w/c's using a quality saltmix should be more than enough to keep your calcium and mag levels stable.
CA has to be there to grow and actually it grows better in lower K actinic light. You could try going to your LFS and hand pick one rock that is covered with good color and scrape the CA off over your nano to boost the growth.

Check your Alk. When I would let me get low mine would start to bleach and die off. Alk is just as important as calc for coralline.
