ive had my 10 gallon tank for 8 months, but recently added 3 1/2 pounds more of coralline covered live rock (9 pounds total). so its cycling again. and the ammonia is at 1 ppm. also have had a bacterial bloom for about 2 weeks now (very annoying). i was just wondering if i can add corals soon after the cycle since i know what and how to test for? if i keep these in check, can i add some lps when the cycle is done? thanks

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would not add any corals with a detectable ammonia level. After the die off is gone and ammonia and nitrite no longer detectable, I would do a water change.

Your tanks been running for 8 months, you should be fine.

Stock slowly and or challenge the tank with ghost feedings. Test for ammonia the next day or two. You should be almost good to go if you do not stock too quickly or over feed.

If you are not feeding the tank or tank inhabitants the biological filters only get so big. Once you add livestock the biological filter needs to catch up in between additions. Fish add more to the bioload than corals (unless their nps).

Now with corals you could easily add 3 corals in an 8 month old tank once water chemistry is stable and you continue to monitor the big 3.

Think about Ducans, Acans, Favid as hardy choices.

Ok ive already had 2 clowns in there. one is 2" and the other is 1.5". i feed them every other day. the main 3 corals i want to keep are torch, hammer, and frogspawn. would they be ok? magnesium is 1600 (this was just from the instant ocean salt). calcium is 450. alkalinity is 13. ph is 8.3. And salinity is 1.023

Are you dosing anything? If your calc, alk, and mag numbers are all right, I am betting your salinity is actually around 1.028, or even higher! Unless you are actually using Reef Crystals in which case you should be around 1.026, although your mag is still pretty high.

What are you testing parameters with, and how do you check salinity?

ammonia, nitrate, and calcium with API. magnesium, ph, and alkalinity with red sea. salinity with hydrometer. i hope its not that high. how big of a problem is it at 1.028?
