Here is my prob... Kris is willing to give me some corals while he tears down his tank and in return when he is ready for some after he gets his tank going again I will frag them. The problem/question is will I risk a hair algae breakout doing this? As most of you know he is tearing down his tank because of nusaince algae taking over. Is there any way to kill the algae on the coral without killing the coral? I keep my param. great, so in theory I shouldn't have to worry about the nusaince algae, but I'm still a little trigger shy. Let me know if you have any knowledge/experience/advice! Pics will be coming tomorrow from him of the teardown.

I bought a piece of brain coral once that had GHA on it at the LFS. Before I brought it home we put it in the LFS'S frag tank with their Chevron Tang to clean it up real nice. The tang did a great job. I was also apprehensive. Not too long after bringing it home it grew back pretty bad, killing the piece. It didn't spread , but, I'd be careful. Seems a little sketchy. GHA sucks. Good luck.

In a way, what I was thinking. If anything, algae spores have to be living on them. I would LOVE to get some, but it may not be worth it. Karma for the advice, any more will be appreciated!

Why not just take frags of each coral, let them grow in your tank, and later on frag those for KOgle? Or setup a smaller tank for them with proper lighting and let them grow there?

I'd take nothing from that tank.. I myself am facing the same dilemma of pulling this tank down from a algae that came on on a coral I thought I had gotten clean and free of that algae . Wrong I have one maybe two more ideas to try and by then I'll feel more like just bleaching it all. I'd not take in anything from that problem.. I'd not give anyone a thing from this tank here ..

i would just set up a qt tank for the coral and see if you can get rid of the problem in there, that way you will not have to worry about it spreading in the main tank

That was the point, but I'm worried about algae growing from the corals to my tank. Smaller tank or QT not an option now because of time, money and space!!

Exactly what I was thinking and wondering, thanks tangster, I appreciate it!! Not worth taking a chance... free coral is great but not great enough to lose a tank over... now what would you recommend to Ogle once his 180 is back up and running, should he get rid of all corals or will he be fine??
