I was thinking today would it be more benfitial to our corals if all the coral that we put in one tank came from the same region of the world or would it make things easier on us as reefers as far as care?

I doubt it would make it any easier or harder... But if you have all the same type (like sps or lps only) then it would be easier

Even if you're setting up a biotope tank (which is rewarding), you still have to take corals individual needs into account. (Which is one of the hardest things about doing mixed reef tanks).

A reef crest coral from the Caribbean can go better with another reef crest coral from the Indo-Pacific better than a reef crest coral from the Caribbean with a lagoon-living coral from the Caribbean. Coral reef zonation is IMPORTANT. If you were using massive random flow for a reef crest coral and put a frogspawn in front of it, it's going to die. If you put it 6 inches under 400W MH's, it's gonna die. Frogspawns don't live on the reef crest and do not appreciate being treated like they do.

Do some Googling on coral reef zonation.

EDIT: .....or exactly what Dingo said above. LOL

Thank you, coral reef zonation has alot of info but I can see why we do the random flows, lighting and placement of coral now. Not that I didnt before just understand someone more now. :)
