i have a small flame angel bout 1-1.5inch. hes been in the tank for 3 months now without any problems till this week. i noticed a big patch of one of my zoo colonies wasnt opened for quite some time. after a day or so i realized it was because my flame angel was nippin at the llittle tentacles. i have not noticed and pieces gettin ripped off but fear that it would eventually lead to the dead of that coral... removing that fish is out of the question as well as the coral cuz its covering almost an entire roc.
my question is has anyone ever build some sort of contraption that would keep fish away while still allowing light to get to it. any ideas would be great

Same thing happened to me, had a flame for two weeks and it started nipping coral.

I don't know of anything you can do but remove the nipper, hopefully someone chimes in and helps.

I dont know about any kind of contraption beyond a collander type cover but then it wont look good in your tank. Flames are know to be coral nippers, 50/50 chance. either one or the other must be removed or he will destroy the colony.

You could try to feed the angel different/more food and/or moving the colony that is being nipped at. This might stop him from nipping, no angel is truly reef safe especially around colorful, tasty zooanthid's!

I agree with zoo4life, non are 100% reef safe and you take a chance anytime you introduce one. That doesnt mean that there are none out there that have success because they do but it is definately a risk. Usually though once they develope the taste they dont change.

They are hard to catch too... I made a trap and used a turkey baster filled with food. I added a small amount inside the trap and he went in and BAM got him.

im thinking about covering the zoas with egg crate or something... i know it would look bad but when company is over i will just remove it. hopefully the fish will forget all about the zoas cuz it wont be able to reach it.
