Higher quantity of greenhouse gas emissions are a direct result of our economy(or economies) and consumer usage of chlorofluorocarbons; electricity, and fossil fuels (eg., oil/natural gas). The 'greenhouse gases' trap heat within t the atmosphere, heating it and our global environments (land/oceans).

So I can see how some would say it is a result, whereas others would say it is a cause.

There is a lot of ignorance and misinformation in this thread. Of course, that's the convenient way of dealing with issues. Unfortunately, that's the case with most on this topic.

Back to the original topic: coral are becoming extinct because of an increase in co2 and ocean temperatures. Who is or isn't at fault doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is that coral reefs may not exist in the near future and it occurred while humans were the dominant species on Earth. Coincidentally, 700 other species have become extinct since 1600 and many more are on the way.

Whether you want to believe it or not, Earth and her ocean is warming and it's because of elevated co2 concentrations.

We all know what happens to our fish tank if you have elevated temperature levels above 85F for extended periods of time?

That's also what happens to our planet. Oxygen saturation falls as temp goes up. It's an effect, not a cause.

hmmmm, I wonder if the melting ice caps are keeping the ocean waters cool at all? I mean, how much quicker would the waters warm if there were no ice caps left?

Some of you feel that it is greenhouse gas emissions in the last 100 years to blame?

What about the non existent pollution standards or large industeial Countries like Red China? It's a big place, lots of pollution- been there- several times- Love the country as a whole BTW.

So, 'we' (America) tax, kill industry, and spend billions of taxpayer dollars on pipe dream Green Enery, so the rest fo the world can further bury us in debt, pollute as they will, and that is OK?
