Thanks YellowBelly, good point about the one halide not covering that skinny area. I was looking at this light on Ebay:

36'' Metal Halide T5 HO Aquarium Light +Moon Brand New - eBay (item 180218675099 end time Feb-29-08 14:21:51 PST)
Has a 150 halide and 2x39 T5's on each side of the halide. Would that be decent enough or would I still be better off getting 4 T5's? Like this:

TEK Light T5 HO 36 4 Lamp TEK Light T5 HO 36 4 Lamp [960015] - $245.00 : Carolina Reefs, Reef Aquarium Supplies, Dry Goods, Livestock, Lighting

Heat!!! don't forget the heat that will come off of lights like that on a small tank. I have 4X110W PC's 4Ft long on my 75G. I have xenia's (an outbreak!), mushrooms, zoa's, 2 clams, a bubble tip anemone, colt coral, torch, green bubble, carnation, cabbage coral and a purple plume. Oh and an acrapora that started growing from an almost dead piece out of someone else's tank. it gets hot in my tank w/ a canopy. No canopy and problem #2 is evaporation w/ heat. It's a double edge sword, with good lights being $$$, so best is to figure your dream list of corals, and go from there. JMO...

The 150 watt metal halide will leave dark spots in your tank. If you had two MH's you would be fine. The 4 bulb TEK combo is fine for your tank, the light is 12" wide, the same width as your tank so you won't have dark spots. You can keep SPS and clams in your tank with the TEK light so don't worry about not being able to keep them if you don't buy MH's.

This tank of the month is 96"x48"x30". He only uses T-5's to light up his tank, 28 48" bulbs to be exact. He has beautiful SPS corals and great growth. If he can keep SPS in a 30" tall tank with all T-5's you'll have no problem keeping them in a 16" tall tank as long as you water quality doesn't decline. He also uses the same TEK light fixture except he has the 8 bulb fixture.
