Move them lower and then move back when the water change is done.

    which corals are they?

when the corals are closed at night, would they still be high and dry then if you did a water change?

many corals can tolerate being out of water for short periods as long as they stay wet (not sponges though)

but I used to do water changes 2 hours after lights out when the corals where retracted for this very reason
also because it protected sensitive to new water LPS corals from to much direct contact with the new water coming in

I do the same thing as steve..Wait til after lights are out..then hurry!! I haven't seen any negative effects from them being out of the water for a little while, but if I can I move them lower so they stay in the water.

You wont have any problems just do the water change, I assume this will only take a matter of minutes?

I think this time im going to move them down because its only a brain and torch and i can move to rock the brains on and put the torch somewhere else. But im going to buy a second 5 gal bucket so i can do it quickly. Cause usually i have to pour out the old water, get the new water, mix the salt, then add it. So with the second bucket i can have new SW instantly after i take out the old.

I ship coral dry just damp in the bag and they set out of the water sometimes for hrs waiting for high tide in the wild

they will be fine during your water change, just make sure they aren't baking under halides of some other hot source while they are out of the water. I have had mine (SPS) for for an hour with no ill effects out of water

also, try to mix your water up 12+ hours before your change so everything can dissolve fully and you are not introducing ammonia from the rxns
