Seeing as space is at a premium under my 75 gallon and my sump and ATO take up every possible square inch, I was wondering can I use my cornerflo as a quasi refugium. I'm not worried about macro algae so much but I was wondering if there is any contraindication to filling the overflow area with rubble. Figure its 21" x 4 x 4 (curved not square though). By my rough guess I could put 2-3 liters of matrix and denitrate in there, or fill it with rubble and get a pod farm going fairly strong.

Just wanted to see if anyone's done this and found it to be a problem :)

You can certainly try it, I don’t see the harm aside from the hassle of removing it all if you ever have the need to work on your stand pipe.

I had a mangrove growing in my overflow for over a year (I didn’t know it was there, nor how it got there). The only light was indirect at best, yet it survived rather well.

I just googled “refugium in overflow” and a host of items comes up including you tube videos – I suspect you will find a host of information on the topic. If you do it, pelase take pictures and start a “how-to” thread with your results added to it down the road. Good luck !
