Was just curious if the higher the specific gravity, or the salinity, the more likely to an outbreak of ich? My 56 gallon tank has been running fairly low 1.019-1.020, and while inverts seem to do pretty badly I have not had a single outbreak of ich, or any visible diseases in its 3-1/2 year existence.

fish do better in lower salinity because they bodies have to work less to keep the salt balance between there bodies and the water they're in.
also the lower salinity will destroy the ich in one of there life stages. which is why hyposalinity can be used as a treatment, however your salinity isn't near that level so its more likely the fishes health thats having a impact.

...but there is still going to be a mild inhibitory effect. Sostoudt is right, it's not enough to eradicate, but you will do better at this level as, say, 1.026

Ive kept my salinity high from a while now, and have never had ich. Fish and inverts are really happy.

I keep my salinity at 1.026, and once had ich appear on my tang, however, it was gone in 3-4 days. Good nutrition and stable water params are all that fish need to keep their immunity high enough to kick ich.

Totally agree, mines kept at 1.025, reef tank, my midas blenny and coral beauty have both had a outbreak, pristine water and params + garlic additive and a cleaner shrimp is all i ever need, for me its always cleared up using this method...

I keep my salinity really high, and have never had ich on one fish. I've kept my salinity high for two years now.
