Torch Coral/Euphyllia glabrescens

Aquarium Needs -

Supplemental Feeding: small, meaty items

Personal Observations -

My personal favorite of my corals! Very interactive. At feeding you can see it sway out it's tentacles is an effort to capture food. Tentacles on mine can extend to about 6-8 inches when its at its "happiest", with a lot of movement. Moves a lot more when its in lower flow areas (I keep mine towards the bottom of the tank sheltered by some rocks). Make sure you have powerful enough lighting to sustain it if you plan on doing the same. Important to note that you must leave ample room between the torch and other corals or sessile inverts, as its tentacles can reach out quite far and sting or gather/capture. Also, very good water quality indicator. I can see a definite difference in its happiness with just a change in nitrates such as going from 0 to 5. Clowns can attempt to host it (mine did). My torch was not very happy with it, but have heard of some that will allow it. I supplement mine with Pacifica Krill once a week, but they will also take small pieces of silversides, shrimp, etc.

I will be doing it this weekend. I got it as one head, and its now up to 3 1/2 heads. Ive only had it about 2 months so thats also a good note about how fast it can spread. Fully expanded the whole colony is about the size of a volleyball; way to big for my 40

 

MIne must not be very happy because I have had it for about 3 months and it doesn't even look like it is getting new heads.

I do have a question though.....I bought a second head of torch but it is a yellow torch. If I place it near my green will they be ok together since they are both torch?

 

From what I have heard yes, but I personally do not have experience with that. You may want to PM someone who has multiple torch's. I believe geek keeps a few different kinds.
