Well I was doing my tank cleaning this afternoon shut down the return to clean the hob over flow.then I noticed sump was filling higher than norm, the stupid air hole(siphone break) was cloged,so i was sucking out alot of water..OK quick fix . no prob .then I go to turn every thing back on,and nothing returning to tank....WTF....my return pump picked a good time to take a crap....well at least i had a spare one...WOW if i would have not been home doing this, and this had been a power outage.it could have been a bad day to come home...
soooo one question.my bio-balls got covered almost all the way for approx 30-45 min while I changed out the pump(couldnt find the spare lol)will this cause any problems in the up coming days weeks..TIA..:p

more times than not pumps will fail when turned off but its not to say they dont when running. you can either take it apart and soak in vinegar or run it with a bucket of vinegar. having a spare of everything in this hobby is a must. soaking the bioballs will allow some nutrients back in the water column but with a skimmer there shouldnt be any issues.

it might set you bio balls back a few days, but a healthy culture should recover from a short drowning.
