If you add more you will need to start stirring your sand otherwise you can eventually kill your tank from gas build up.

    +1

Also, are you planning to put mangroves in your main DT? You do realize that they are a swamp/coastline plant, don't you? I'm not aware of any species that will survive fully submerged. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the setups I've seen where Mangroves were used for nutrient transport had the plants suspended over a fuge or sump with only the roots below water level. You'd do better with them in a HOB fuge.

That was in reference to needing a sand-sifter after the fact. :)

no your correct, im going to float them in a container with miracle mud, or just float in a piece of eggcrate and let the roots grow down.

I also have 6 Ceriths (sand sifting) and a mantis that sifts, does that help at all?

Absolutely, that makes a major difference from what I was imagining you were planning to do to your system. :)

Since that's the case, you're good to go. You should be able to add however much sand you were planning as the sifters will mix it with what you have.

Hehehe... I just hope nobody takes it too personally when I misunderstand their intentions. Maybe this will help you understand who I am...

I was your age when my 10th grade biology teacher received a very large shipment of SW fish and inverts, enough to fully stock a 125g aquarium, to put in the 20L (already established) FW GUPPY tank she had in the classroom. Long story short, I panicked and ended up being sent to the principal's office and suspended for a day for disrupting the classroom on the pretense that 'she knows what she's doing'.

On the day I returned, I asked, "Where did all the SW livestock go"? Her answer: "Don't start on me again, you know what happened last time. Obviously there was a problem with the shipment. I'm dealing with the supplier about it".

I skipped her class the rest of the year and she passed me with an A. Not sure yet if it was in appreciation for not showing up in class, or if she just didn't want to deal with me another year. LOL

So yeah, when someone asks,"Can I add sand to my DT for Mangroves?"... :)
