When your usage goes up you sometimes enter the next tier which is more $ per KWH. Here a bump to the next tier is a $.03 per KWH increase. It may not sound like much but when you are using 1500 KWH in the summer it makes a big difference in my bill. Check your bill and see the break down of the usage in each tier you are in. This could be whats happening...

    no ac running

my kwh usage went up from 91.3 to 157.7, and the prices are the same per kwh.but the lights werent on any more then last bill, nothing new running. we have even tried to keep usage down.

same prices as last bill. yes we are using some more expensive teir, but I am trying to figure it out.

I am using the cold water side, so it shouldnt be going through the heater. check... got to figure out what other factors have changed from last month to this month.

Could it be an adjustment to the kilowatt usage? Last year I was working on my house (still am) and had some construction garbage piled up too close to the meter. Instead of trying to read it, they just estimated it. The next time they came around (and I had cleaned up the mess), they did an actual reading and the amount was way different than what I was expecting. Upon reading the old bill more closely, I saw that it said "estimated meter reading". The new bill said "actual meter reading". That caused the big difference.

could be someone tapping from you electric, I know that sounds crazy but my son lived in an apartment and his bills were absolutely stupid high in the summer, couldn't figure it out.

So we shut off everything in his house, unplugged his fridge and every other things that was plugged in. went out and checked his meter and it was just whirling away, spinning to beat the band.

So we started looking for a reason, and on a whim, emptied his storage shed on the patio out side. Since it was back to back with his next door neighbor and he knew that there was a plug at the back of it. what we found was that his neighbor had cut a hole in the wall, ran a extra heavy duty extension cord to one of those portable AC units that sat in his living room!

Need less to say he called the cops and they actually hauled the guy away, charged him with theft and distruction of private property because he cut the the wall, guy ended up paying him almost 1000 bucks to my son to keep from having to go to jail!

This is kind of off topic from the electric bill but you shouldn't be running straight cold water through your RO/DI unit, it decreases the life of the membrane. I think Spectrapure recommends 76degree water or something like that be run through to prolong the life.
