Alright, I've got somestuff I've found tonight, and would like some ID/confirmation.

    1. My newish toadstool leather appears to be shooting out spiderman-like webs/string.
Tonight I finally saw where it was coming from, and I assume that it's just shedding.
    Normal?
These "strings" are extending like at least 2 feet across the tank at times.

    2. I assume that this is Aiptasia... End of the world?

    3. I have no idea what this is. I tried to find it online, but it's kind of a tough search. It's kind of clear tentacle looking with whiter tips.

The first picture is one of two things IMO. Itis either a slim that your toadstool is secreting from being stressed to your tank (you said it was new) and it is getting used to your setup in that it may be getting too much flow and so on. OOOORRRRRR it could be a vermitid snail shooting out his web to feed from somewhere near the toadstool (do a search on vermitids/hard to tell from pic)

The second picture is most definately aiptasia. No its not the end of the world just do not let them get outta control. If it bothers you you can purchase an aiptasia killer like aiptasia x or build an aiptasia zapper(there is athread on it somewhere). Overall they are not a huge concern you just dont want them to get outta control or sting other corals. There will be conflicting views on this, but I dont mind them. They just eat up extra food and I just WHACK EM' when they get to big or propegate too much.

The last pic I have absolutely ZERO clue what that is.

    Thanks.
I posted something a few days ago about the Toadstool, and kind of got 2 different things.
Now the Vermitid Snail is a new one, but it does kind of look like that...

As far as the Aiptasia goes, I just worried because I've seen some threads that make it seem like the Apocalypse.
It's the only one I've seen so far in the 4 months of my tank.

Ya I mean aiptasia isnt necessarily something that you want to grow and let take over your tank and it can if not watched. However, it is not something that if you have a few in your tank its going to eventually destroy everything. The main thing that they do is sting other corals, which is especially a problem for those who have fully stocked tanks. I myself have two aiptasia heads right now that I can see in my new 75 and I briefly considered getting rid of them and then I remembered it isnt that big of a deal. More of an eye sore for some more than anything IMO. worked for a fish store back in the day where we would commonly use aiptasia x to get rid of it and this is generally what I use when I wanna weed some out. Like I mentioned there is literally and aiptasia taser you can either build yourself or buy or have heard just using boiling or lemon juice and squirting it on them with a cyringe and a hole lotta other stuff just look into different option if you wanna get rid of it.

I have what might be a stupid question, but could you just take that rock out for a second and pick the aiptasia off?

I bought an appy zapper. I can't use it in my tank, I'm sorry to report. A saw a fish jump when I pressed the "plunger".... more than once so it wasn't a coincidence.

If your head is directly over the water, you can smell the chlorine. I just dont feel "good" using it.

    First three are harmless ctenophores.

Yes, that appears to be an aiptasia. One would need another pic to know for sure. If it is, you cannot pick if off because pedal laceration is one of it's reproduction methods. You could accidentally turn one of them into 5 of them.

In your last pics, I don't normally worry about pseudocorynactis (ball anemones). There are a few species that are troublemakers but they are rare.

The third picture I am pretty sure is a type of ball anemone. If you google some images, you should be able to confirm PID. They are normally not detrimental as they do not get that big and I enjoy them because they add biodiversity.

As for aiptasia, you do not really want to pick them off because any tissue that remains on the rock can reform into a new anemone. If you make a mess picking them off, you may end up causing quite a few new aiptasia anemones to pop up.

edit: Looks like inwall75 beat me to the ID :p

Yes and no. In my experience I have found that they will just grow back and sometimes in bigger numbers. The problem with removing the rock is that they will retract and 9 outta 10 times it is into a small hole that you cant touch them in. Further, trying to remove them in the tank may result in the same thing OR you may be able to cut them out with say scissors. (I USED TO DO THIS) I thought it was great in that you would sneak up to them with open scissors and get as close to the base as possible and then SNIP problem solved. The problem with this is that you actually help them spread sometimes because they produce asexually and they release their seed if you will when you snip them. You can remove the rock and scrub it to ripthem apart and rinse them out in some salt water in a bucket, but I feel that purchasing some aiptasia x or something similar is much less of a hassle in that you do not have to remove a rock and scrub the bejesus outta it and still risk it coming back. Aiptasia X in my experience you squirt it in the mouth of aiptasia with supplied sryringe and they die. DONE. Simple. Also, you may consider adding a "natural fix" like some peppermint shrimp which are hit or miss (they usually only eat smaller ones) and someties dont eat them at all, filefish (may eat certain corals), certain butterfly fish (depending on tank size) and so on. Sorry for the long responses...I know it is a lot to read, but in my short time in this hobby (about 4 years) the bet thing to do and get used to is reading.;D I still do A LOT of reading to this day and by no means do I consider myself to know it all. Fact of the matter is that we are trying to mimic water paramters, conditions, and so on of a piece of earth that is pretty much for the most part mostly undicovered next to space. Bottom line is that there is always something to learn.
