Has anyone kept one of these guys? I like the looks, and the fact they stay fairly small (2.5 inches). The tank would be a 28G Nano-Cube with some soft corals and live rock.

    Are they diggers?

    Thanks!

I think those are really pretty! I did read that they hide most of the time, but they are really neat looking!

With a rainford goby in a nano, you would want to ensure that you have a sufficient quantity of copepods for them to eat. They will hide for the first several weeks but if there are no other aggressive fish, they will become more brave and be out and about. They do need algae in their diet too so make sure your brine or mysis frozen foods has spirulina in it as well. Some people have needed to grow some hair algae on a piece of rubble and put it in the tank every week or so if theirs won't accept the algae in the frozen food.

Thanks for the input. How would they fare with dragonets? I'm planning on starting a pod farm this weekend in an old 10g tank to get a head start on feeding (Even though I'm a month away from finishing the cycle). Can never have enough pods eh? I'd imagine that even a good headstart wouldn't be enough with two specialized feeders. Perhaps 2 10g farms?

Thanks again for the info 3reef!

I think that a rainfordi will compete for food too much with dragonets in a 28g tank.

The rainfordi gobies don't really seem to eat the algae IME, but the eat the critters on the algae. Many don't get enough to eat in LFS's, but I know of one is a no LR frag tank, with a bare bottom, and only egg crate for the frags that has a nice fat belly. That is a rarity though.

Thanks all again for the input. I'm thinking it is a one or the other type of situation with the two fish mentioned above. I'd like to get both, but I'll wait till I can get a 75 or 90 before that would happen (Not to mention 10 trillion 'pods growing in a farm!).

    Thanks again!
