Not sure if this is the best part to put it but....I need a cover or something for my tank so that I do not find anymore blue spotted jaw fishes on the floor when I get home from work. I was thinking something like a mesh ie window screen would this effect the lighting of the tank if it was stretched a crossed the tank? Or does anyone recommend any other type of cover I can use? I realize egg crate will come up and I know its pretty decent but anything else besides that? Are there any DIY projects out there that have done with with great success to looks and letting light come through well preforming the job of a cover?

egg crate would be your best bet for letting through the most light, but i don't think one layer of screen would hold back too much light.

you could build a frame out of thin wood and just staple the screen to it or wrap the eggcrate with screen

Build a clear acrylic wall around the top of the tank up about 4" high (think hockey rink).

Hmmm I could try that Jason but I have terrible luck with acrylic I have tried making stuff with it and it never worked out. I can not get a straight cut, all kinds of different things that just make me annoyed with it now. Plus the light's legs would get in the way... Do you think one layer of screen would affect the lighting that much?

Regular screen definitely will cut down your light a bit. Some people have used pond netting (try and find 1/4" IMO) in a regular screen frame with good results though, if you can find the material.

just fit the screen around your tank, but dont go underneath the lights. use velco to attac for easy removal when feedin or cleanin
