I'm going to buy a copperband maybe Monday. My LFS called me and said they got one 3 days ago.. It's about 2-3 inches. They told me they haven't seen him eat but I'm going to see if by Monday it starts eating..

Would this be a risky buy? Even if it's eating on Monday?

Any thoughts? Lfs is very reputable but I rather hear your opinions on this.

Yeah i would go ahead and get it, sharks are very hard to get to eat when new born or young but most of them live, the butterflys are great looking fish, im gunna get one myself but also if it dusnt live ur LFS should be able to exchange it if it does die or sumthing happens to it.

I would personally want to see it eat with my own eyes. It could just be due to stress, but I wouldn't take the chance without witnessing it eat at least twice. If it eats Mon, see if you could come back Tues and have them feed it again. Just my 2 cents.

Make sure it is eating and remember they are not considered reef safe.

I finally found a CCB that eats. Took me years. The issue is They might eat at the LFS but if you have aggressive eaters like Tangs or Triggers in your tank the CopperBand will not get in there to eat. It's too scared to catch the food.

Great fish and yes the first step is to see it eat at the store. Don't buy it if you don't see it eat

I don't think I can see it eat twice because I don't have a ride to go twice but I trust my lfs 100.
( they didn't sell me a copperband last month because it wasn't eating)

so I'll ask them If it eats on monday and I'll go see personally if it eats on Tuesday..

Don't let them net it! The stress of being netted is easily enough to make a copperband that's eating stop eating. Butterflies should never be netted due to the spines along the leading edge of their dorsal fin. They also have very sensitive gills which can be damaged by netting.

I found one that was eating once so I decided to buy it. Before I could say anything the guy swooped it out with a net. I had him put it strait back in and came back a few days later to see if it was still eating. It stopped eating and died about a week later.

I had a CBB that would devour food. but it ended up dying for an unknown reason... real pretty fish. They come in handy with aiptasia control
