    Hi all,
I was looking at my HOB skimmer and also thinking of buying a over flow box. now i know that the skimmer i have is not a good one for my 80 g but will get the job done. My idea is to make that skimmer into an overflow not using a syphon but using the pump that is on the skimmer and taking the airline off, drilling a hole in the bottom of the skimmer and make a line into the sump. is there any reason why this wouldent work? would there be sufficent gph flow into the sump? and suggestions/ideas would be appreciated. im trying to do this as cheap as possible and i was thinking of doing the sump idea that is on reefvideos.com. is this a good design, im mean it sounds like a brilliant and very simple to build. well if anycould give me ideas on this!

    TIA

    well...

hey 4 given, one problem you will run into is that you will have to have a pump return the water to your tank with the exact same gph flow rate or either your sump or display will end up overflowing.
If you are wanting to do things cheap there are a lot of DIY jobs on this site that are both fun to do and cheap. Coveys DIY overflow design is especially nice:)
