I have a a cpr bakpak 2 on my 20 gallon reef. I am using the accella pump for it with the airstone mod. I am thinking of upgrading 2 the Genx 1000 needle wheel pump. Has anyone tried this on a bakpak 2? Will this mod make it work more like the reef octopus skimmer which is similar the the bakpak 2?

As long as your GPH rating on the new pump isn't too much, then it should work. You can also mod the impeller on the Accella with fishing line to chop up the air even more.

I looked it up, I think you would be better off going with a GenX-1500 and throttling it back. The Accella/Maxi-Jet options are 295GPH, and the GX-1000 is 265GPH, GX-1500 is 400GPH.

Is the Accella the one CPR recently put out for the BakPak? Mine doesn't have a name on it as I got it prior to them being released. It's night and day different in terms of performance then a MJ, a NW modded MJ and waaaaaay beyond the RIO performance.

Yup, they Accella looks like a MJ1200 but without the MJ sticker.
