Does anyone know what pump they use, or one I could substitute? I had to custom build an overflow of this style (almost exactly) due to the 3" gap i need to get from the tank past and past the canopy.

    Thanks!

PS: I used to have a diy pvc overflow. I'm just amazed at how much water this CPR style can move SILENTLY.   !

I'm using a mag 7 on my cs90 wich is rated at 600gph
I used to use a mag 5 that worked well also.

I mean the pump to remove the air that builds up in the overflow, sorry :)

Gotcha. I will check mine when I get home. Or do a search on the cpr sc50 and see the air pump they have listed with some of them. The opject is to get one that will stand up to the water going through it which I'm pretty sure you are already aware of.

I use the aqualifter pump and it works great. You might want to buy 2 of them in case one fails.

Once you have the siphon started via a small pump the air that builds up inside the overflow will only be controlled and equal to the size and volume of water the main return pump from the sump moves. Once it reaches the point of pressure and water volume no mire air will acclimate in the overflow.. all hang on over flows have a certain amount of air inside their J tube or the wide J tube like CPR has in its design.

Say you have a may 5 on a tank and air in the overflow move up to a mag 9 it will just push and purge the required volume of air to equal the volume of water passing or being forced through the pipe or J tube as long as the openings of the tube are exposed to the same amount of air pressure. that's how a siphon works

Here's my new return pump that is going to be delivered in about an hour.

Tangster, so what you're saying is that once the volume of air in the prefilter becomes >= water it will be forced through the pipe? I've had situations that satisfy that and the air is not purged from the system. So your talking about a pressure differential that would accomplish this? It's just a matter of the rate of flow through the system, if it is capable of purging air or not? (im assuming, would you agree?) Perhaps the rate of flow and the volume.... i dunno, time to get out my physics book :(

    Thanks !

Nice pump. And yes that is correct. Once the air pocket gets big enough it should get pushed through the overflow tube because the water is of greater volume and weight of the air forcing it through the tube once that air pocket is to big to pass. I still prefer the cpr design with the air line tube to suck the air out but that is just because i'm papanoid and anal.
