Thanks, i hope its better thant the rio hyperflow 20hf it's replacing.

I too am paranoid about it. I'll keep a close eye on the water level, if it makes me nervous, ill put a pump on there.

serotonin yes thats basically what happens. Once the siphon is started and the main return pump from the sump determines the amount of volume that the overflow has to handle. The where the volume of water is established then air will move in to fill the void. If its matter it has to be somewhere :) once they are equal then the quo is status ;D

And the air fills the void now move up to a larger volume pump and then more water will be moved and more air will be purged from the overflow as long as the air pressure is equal and there is room for expansion of the water to purge the air up to the overflows ability to handle the total volume of liquid moving through it. Like say a 1.5 H.P 20,000 gph B&G pump could never be handled by that little of a overflow. But all trapped air would be purged. LOL

I have a temporary overflow running now that I ran with a mag 1800 for a long time the siphon was fine 'very little trapped air' then when it was used on a smaller tank with a mag 5 its been over half full of air since day one. Its the bubbles that are created from the spillway into the front box from the tank. It will equalize and be fine I'm no fan of hang ons but I have never seen one loose siphon unless the hobbyist broke it or someone did something to cause it..
