    Hello all,

I am having an cyano issue I am battling and while talking with another reefer he mentioned I may need to increase the size of my hang on back overflow and return pump to increase water volume passing through my sump and there for skimmer.

I have a opportunity to pick up a cpr102 rated at 1200 gph and a mag drive 9. Is this too much? Advice?

    Thanks all

    D.

Your return pump should run at about 10 times your sumps volume at 4 to 5 foot head. Your overflow should run at least at that number if not more.

my sumps about 25 gallons, so I only need a return pump rated for 250 gph? Seems a far cry from the 800 mag drive 9.5 I have been guided to get.

I had a cpr cs90, rated for 600 gph, and a mag drive 9.5. No way that overflow took care of the mag's flow. I had the return pump dialed back to 15 or 20% at the most in a 30 gallon sump.

I upgraded my overflow to an eshopps pf-1200 with the dual drain and now I'm golden. I keep the mag drive all the way open... lots of flow, but I like it and my corals/fish also seem to enjoy riding the flow.

What size tank do you have? I am trying to figure out if it is necessary to upgrade. From what I am hearing 1200 gph in a 55 is tooooo much.
