Thats a pretty sweet crab, vibrant. I'd def keep him.

Generally speaking, when someone says marine, their talking about a fowlr, generally. I would be surprised if a lot of people refer to their reef tanks as marine tanks. Tangster just jumped on it and said, get rid of it:). Can't always assume that everyone on the site has a reef. As long as that thing doesn't mess with his fish (by the size it probably will), it would be cool to keep in his display.

    It has sharp claws....not good.

I stand corrected , forget I said anything But for what its worth and its free I have personally seen many a cool looking crab that hitched hiked in on some rock or sand eat some pretty sweet fish and all the other crabs in the system..
I sat one day and watched a sweet crab take out every emerald crab the guy had crunch right into about the size of a dime when he first saw it but it looked sweet so he allowed it to stay next time he saw it I saw it and it was a shamed faced crab had to tear the entire tank down to get it out .It ate fish as well . If you have to ask toss them is my motto But thats just me , The reason I said toss it is because by time you get the answer it could already eating something worth far more ..

true that! in a reef tank GET IT OUT, in a fowlr think before acting because most fowlrs consist of larger fish and considering it was already in your display for 2 months before you noticed it, then its probably not as eminent to remove it.

So is red mirthrax 100% confirmed ID? I didn't see any with such vibrant of colors on google images. Any other ID suggestions?

If you setup a custom tank for that thing, you better make a build thread.

Yea, I've got a mantis shrimp in my refugium. I'm kind of afraid to put my hand where I can't see it. SNAP!!!

Definitely not an emerald. See that claw structure? That there is for tearing through meat, not algae ;)
I have no idea on exactly what type it is. But since it's in your sump just let it be. It will help clean up the detritus and uneaten food. I doubt it will get very big at all.

Can you get a picture of it showing the top of the carpace facing down? Where did your rock originate from?
