Crab I.D. and is it a dead crab or a molt?

    Found this crab body. I am not sure whether it is a molt or a dead crab. I am hoping it is a dead crab, but if it is just a molt I need to catch it right? It appears to me to be bad.

    I never saw this thing alive so I have no idea what color it would normally be. How can I tell if it is a molt or not? Cut it in half and see if there is guts in there?

    It didn't have any tears anywhere on it so it must have been a dead crab. Too bad I didn't catch him alive... would have made good food for my mantis.
