    Hi guys im pretty sure i already know the answer to this but just want to check, can anyone ID this crab for me and tell me if he is reef safe (pretty sure hes not) he somehow hitched a ride on my live rock

    Eriphia Sebana

    Menippidae

    If this is it, it is definitely no good. The link says it can kill fish.

    I am probably 70% sure. The red eye characteristic is not too common. The second picture on that link is identical to the one you posted.

    Yeah gotta admit it looks pretty similar, just glad i noticed he was in there before ive added any corals or fish

    The pinchers on yours do not look pointed but flat tipped and are not black tipped as do the ones in the link. Usually a carnivorous crab will have pointed/serrated claws. Not saying it isn't bad/good just pointing out the difference ;)

    Not reef safe...it's a member of the gorilla crab family.

    Ask Curt about his "red-eyed crab from heck!"...

    Not a good guy. Banished to the sump or remove.
