From the look of the claw I had the same one in my tank.

LOL well I guess you have never had a crab to decimate your tanks before ? I have had a few that I had to break down and get them out back when I was trying L/R and L/sand ..I started and nice since I stopped using them have I had any more problems .. Oh and for traps LOL if you ever trap one and do get it its never fast or soon enough , All Crabs are omnivores and well eat what they can when they can Unless it's a anemone or sps crab It goes .. I won't even keep more then a few hermits. as for fair ? Its life in the ocean eat or be eaten..I prefer to error on the side of caution a free hitchhiker crab vs. a very expensive fish or coral ?? Crab looses in my tanks :)

I agree with Coral Reefer. From your pics, it looks like a mithrax crab (Genus Mithraculus). Note the flat tips on the end of the claws -- like having coins glued to the end of your index finger and thumb -- great for grabbing algae. I've seen them in green and orange, but not black like yours. I had a green Mithrax who was shy and only ate algae, but read about others who had crabs that would grab a slow-moving fish.
