    Hi,

I got a crack that I noticed recently in my 60 Gallons tank, the crack seems to be on the outside of the glass, I can feel it when touching it, but I can feel water as well with micro drops and salt deposit all around. I took a look from the inside, the silicon looks pretty thick and heavy and doesn't seem to be sliced or damaged. But that thing is pretty scary.

    Here are some pics:

I was thinking about buying this waterproof silicon glue at home depot and fix it but I think that won't prevent the crack to get bigger.

Anyone had the same problem before? Do you guys have a solution to repair it?

Thanks so much by advance! :)

Yeah, drain the tank remove the cracked panel and replace it with a new one. It is the only way! otherwise in time, and you will never know when that crack is going to let loose and you going to have a fish and coral covered floor.

I wouldn't use waterproof silicon either.

I know, this is really scary, I love my little guys, the only vision of this possible disaster makes me shiver.

Well, since this tank is a little more than a month old, (bad luck eh?) I'll try to see if the store can exchange it or repair it. Changing the glass face seems like a good solution, unfortunately, speaking of do-it-yourself especially with glass, I'm a looser so I guess I'll ask them. ;D

I'll keep an update on how things are going.

Thanks so much for your quick answers, really happy I found this forum!

I don't think they'll exchange it, especially after it was set-up already. What size tank is it? Maybe you can find a used one on craigslist instead of paying full price for another brand-new one. Then list that one for sale as a terrarium.

that's one nasty crack and sadly it's in the seam area to, i would drain that bad boy.
it's a disaster waiting to happen , ( and you know your not going to be home when it happens )
you'll come home after a week end out to the lake , and you'll have dried up fish and stinch only one could imagine.

Oh and if any one think's about this. as you said it's creeping salt, what does salt do ? after the water starts to dry ?
salt starts to crystalise and expand ( and in the seam ) ?

If it is all glass brand I believe they do come with a warranty. I would call the store where you bought it and see. However reguardless it needs to be replaced now.

Okay I called the manager, he dropped by to my place a few weeks ago and we get to know well each other so he told me he will get me a new one by Sunday. I hope the glass will be able to handle it until sunday, I half emptied it to drop the pressure inside.
