ok so tonight I went to the tank to chage a setting on the gyre generator and slipped in a puddle of water. I was completely baffled as I had no idea where the water could have come from.
After quite a bit of investigation, I saw that my sump had a crack at the bottom first chamber. I drained the excess water and re did some plumbing bypassing that chamber so that the sump would still be operational but I don't have enough pvc to complete the plumbing.
I'm going to the hardware in the morning to get some silicone. I have some glass to patch the crack till I can get a new sump this week.
So my question is, will the gyre generator alone be able to provide enough oxygen for the 5 fish in a 400gal aquarium overnight?
Or should I put in a maxi jet for some surface agitation and some insurance?

I am sure it will be fine but for added security throw the maxi jet on there. Any added security will not be wasted.

Looked a bit harder and found some PVC pipe to complete the rig. Got it up and running.
I feel relieved but now I have to work on getting the new sump asap...

Thanks, just had to go back and glue some connections. I have a tendency of not gluing PVC connections but that's beacuse I usually deal with smaller return pumps.
Waiting for that to dry properly and then I'll power on the pum again.
While I'm at it, I think the new sump will be placed outside the room and into the garage along with the chiller. It may make life a bit easier and less noisy...

Glad to see that you were able to get a quick fix. I hope you don't have any further excitement in your near future!
