Well, all in all, I think you got a pretty good deal. Even if you cannot use your 150g, the dragons are worth it....if you want to take care of them. And if the tank tests fine and holds water......excellent.....and those overflows can be disguised easily enough. Rock formations and, like you said, GSP will take care of that. Just get creative. Pretty sweet. You came out ahead on this one I think.

How about taking the black overflows out and just doing a couple Dursos and cover it up good with rockwork.

What about taking the overflows out all together and capping the bulkheads. Or you could us those spots for a closed loop system?

Just a thought. I hope it all works out good for you.

Nothing wrong with the overflows, they move the water better that way anyway. The nice thing about this tank is that you have the option to set it up like Ottys as a pen, or against a wall.

Personally I like being able to view my tank from 360 degrees. Just have to be creative with the aquascape....think arches!

    Good Call Jakerupe!

it's amazing how one comment can change a persons negative perspective into a bulletproof positive viewpoint. Jakerupe commented about the ability to walk around the tank. I've been going over and over in my head about a tank that's against the wall for my clients that come into my studio to look at and for me to have something to look at while they're going over my work. NOW, how cool would it be if i made this the center of the room creating a path forcing them to walk around the tank to look at all the images in my little 10x10 display room. If they don't like my work the tank would give them a really cool visual impact none of my competitors have. In theory i think this would cause them to remember me more than the rest and increase my preceived value. That's 90% of making the sale in my opinion, look better than you are right?

With this new positive outlook i put the tank up on blocks and filled it to make sure there are no leaks. ND3_8893web.jpg It has PVC connections protruding out of the bottom so i had to put it on blocks. ND3_8891web.jpg Tomorrow I'll get a copper test kit to make sure that's not an issue. how long should it sit to make sure the copper levels are apparent? I didn't have the right connections to bulkhead the returns so i used some PVC stuff from when i installed my sprinkler system. Tha'ts what the PVC pipping is in the center and the black tubeing coming out of the side. The seals look good to me, but I'm not expert. ND3_8911web.jpg If i had to make my best guess i'd say they looked new to be honest. I would love to hear comments on how seals that look good can go bad. This tank doesn't have a scratch on it. It does/did have a lot of dust and i saw sunflower seed casings and one small dropping of bird poop. The tank was open on the top in storage for 4 months (so i was told) in a shed behind a house that looked like something from deliverance. I love country folk, that's where my roots start and my teen years were spent ... but when you see beware of dog signs multiple times and pit bulls chained to a tree in front of 4 or more houses on your street .... well that's how good horror movies start anyway. My girlfriend didn't want to get out of the car. ND3_8922web.jpg It's full and no leaks yet ... how long would you let it sit .. a few days ... a week?

Important part of this post = how dangerous is it to have these returns in the center of the tank on the bottom. If i spring a leak on one of these connections the tank will empty out entirely right? I thought about putting in a backflow stop like i did with my sprinklers. That would mean another connection and where they're is another connection that is another possibility of a leak. A little leaking isn't a huge deal because the lower level is on a slab and i turned everything into tile and laminate when i moved in, 150 gallons would be a bit much to deal with if it all drained out. That would mean sheetrock work and mildew in the framing … not good at all.

    The bearded dragons = Visuals

The bearded dragons are doing really well. We read up on them. Aside from being high maintenance they're pretty cool. I don't personally thank they are as interesting as a reef tank. My girlfriend says different which is good i guess because now she has something to stair at while I'm analyzing my reef tanks. ND3_8842web.jpg

The light fixture in my last post looks geto but when i looked at it closely it appears to be well thought out i think. The ends of the lights where the metal is has a caped in marked coralife. I think the twist connectors on the wires should be a little more secure with to prevent water contact but other than that it looks like it will last and do the trick. One is a blue and the other is white, i think the blue is 14000k, it looks about the same luminosity at the one in my oceanic tank. So that makes the think the other is 10000k because it's white but without being marked you can't really tell can you? They work and they're 4' TL 40watt phillips. I'm thinking after the sand, live rock and skimmer i'll invest in a good fixture. I'm guessing a 150g tank would need 2 fixtures right? I have learned lighting is KEY. The tank i have upstairs has 2 36watt coralife bulbs. I strapped my 1000watt MH to a chair and pointed it right at the front from 8 feet away with a big fan pointing at the light to keep it cool. The tank only goes up 2 degrees in 8 hours then i turn it off .... but MAN you wouldn't believe the amount of growth i get just doing this one or two days a week. It's like everything comes alive for a day or two after that then it's back to "ok" half opened coral.

Looking good man. Now that I see the overflows better I think they are just fine. I would definitely set that up as a 360 degree tank. You got an awesome deal. As for the seals they looks to be in great shape. A good 48 hour water test should be enough

I doubt that copper was used in that tank, otherwise your silicone would look blue.
The only thing I don't like is that the tank is very narrow. But it should be fine.

And as for your bulbs, it looks like you have VHOs. I'd bet one is 10K white, and the other is 460 nm blue. That is what the common setups used to have, and it's what was in the canopy that came with my tank.

I agree with above posted of 24-48hr leak test...

If one of the Pvc fitting gives way or leaks it will only leak the water out till the water level is below your overflow Luvers or the same level as your doin ur leak test...

Hmm Slap a tape measure on it and see what the diamentions are on that steal of a tank...

Over all with a lil elbow grease and some TLC It will shine up like a purdy penny..!!

    Good Luck..!!!
